Ba Fine Art Painting - Why i paint what i do.
Capturing Light and creating distortion and confusion is the influence for my paintings. The subject matter I have chosen is a number of Jack Daniel’s bottles arranged in a still life and painted using Oil Paint on glass and mirror. I have chosen to paint Jack Daniel’s bottles because I find them aesthetically pleasing and their form captures light and creates distortions when placed on top or near one another. These distortions reflect upon the brain gaps you experience when you have consumed too much alcohol and your memories are moulded into one memory and some pieces are ‘shattered and fragmented’.
I experimented painting on canvass to start with but over time I grew tired of the same techniques used to create my paintings. I therefore changed my media altogether and painted on glass and mirror, a substance that could easily be smashed and transformed to create a new work of art, an easier substance to communicate my message. Working on glass has changed the application of the paint as it constantly changes the thickness of the paint, and the brush strokes used because the paint is unable to sink into the glass.
